The Norwich Radical is an online progressive publication founded in Norwich. We are a collective of writers, activists, students and workers who work on a voluntary basis to produce a publication which amplifies progressive and radical ideas. We publish a range of content across five distinct sections from our team of regular writers and through externally sourced pieces. Since our foundation in 2014 we have published more than 1800 articles from writers in India, Aotearoa New Zealand, the US, UK, Italy, Brazil, Germany, Romania, and elsewhere.

***DEADLINE EXTENDED***

We are currently recruiting for three editorial positions: Community section editor, Perspectives section editor and Student section editor. See below for full details of each position.

Please return your statement, written work sample and equal opportunities monitoring form by midnight (UK time) on Sunday 13th of September 2020. If you have any queries, email us at thenorwichradical@gmail.com.

Community Editor

We are currently looking to recruit a new member of our editorial team who will be working as our Community Editor. Our Community section covers political and social activity in Norwich and Norfolk.

Whilst The Norwich Radical has grown and expanded beyond its Norwich base since its inception in 2014, we believe strongly in retaining a connection with the community we built ourselves in. Note: While applicants do not have to be based in the UK, ideally for this position you will be based in East Anglia, England.

Perspectives Editor

We are currently looking to recruit a new member of our editorial team who will be working as our Perspectives Editor. Our Perspectives section covers political and cultural developments related to marginalised communities based on ethnicity, gender, heritage, orientation, disability and identity, in the UK and abroad.

The Norwich Radical has always recognised the necessity of an intersectional approach to political and critical analyses. We have tried where possible to involve, uplift and engage individuals belonging to marginalised and oppressed communities – on a local and global scale, holding media and activism to account and scrutiny through the lens of LGBTQIA+, disabled, and ethnically marginalised voices. As a predominantly white-led publication, we recognise our privileges and limitations, but still strive to write, pose ourselves and act in a decolonial, anti-racist, anti-oppressive manner. The Perspectives section embodies these beliefs, as it offers a platform to discuss and analyse the arts, history, geopolitics, and identity of otherwise marginalised voices in UK media, be it Black Lives Matter, Welsh and Scottish independence, or the recognition of rights for trans* people, the GRT community, or Indigenous peoples across the world.

We anticipate the role will require a commitment of roughly 6-10 hours per week and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Copy-editing and proof-reading content
  • Uploading and laying up content to our website
  • Managing our social media accounts, for the purposes of the Perspectives section
  • Writing and implementing strategy for the Perspectives section
  • Working with, supporting and developing a team of regular writers in your section

  • Connections with liberation campaign groups, activism, and movements

  • Experience in writing and delivering strategies

Student Editor

We are currently looking to recruit a new member of our editorial team who will be working as our Student Editor. Our Student section covers political and cultural developments in education institutions and the surrounding communities, in the UK and abroad.

The Norwich Radical was born in the student movement, and we remain firm in our belief that student action is a crucially important field of change-making. We aim to provide insight into the worlds of secondary and higher education through a variety of perspectives, by showcasing the extraordinary work of student activists and artists, by critically examining the inner workings of educational institutions, and by analysing the policies of governments, workers’ unions, and larger student organisations such as NUS.

We anticipate the role will require a commitment of roughly 6-10 hours per week and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Copy-editing and proof-reading content
  • Uploading and laying up content to our website
  • Managing our social media accounts, for the purposes of the Student section
