WORDS WITH FRIENDS II – CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

by Billy Pilgrim With The Heartsease Kid

Are you looking for a way to get your voice heard? Do you have a book of poems on your bedside table that nobody ever reads? Isn’t it time somebody listened to you?

If you answered yes to any  of these questions then you may be suitable for “Words w/ Friends Vol II”.

The first project was successful in many ways, and gave the artists involved a fantastic new platform in which to share their work. Now we are looking for fresh set spoken word poets to storm Vol II. This is open to people all over the country, we have already had submissions from poets in important poetry places like Bristol, Glasgow, and Leicester.

So what is it all about?

  • Putting your voice to a sensational set of beats produced by The Heartsease Kid.
  • Using your voice to put Spoken word poetry on the map.
  • Performing in front of people that haven’t seen poetry like this before.

Are you tired of pushing your work at the same old open mics? Maybe it’s time to switch things up and get involved in something new and original.

But what is the point of it all? The poetry scene in Norwich is booming at the moment with events such as The Poetry Collective and Volta Poetry, but what this project will do is grab the attention of those that haven’t seen spoken word in this way. Imagine this: there are people out there that don’t think poetry is cool and exciting, and this project is going to prove them wrong. Together with a group of like-minded people you can show off your talent and take your creativity to the next level.

Who are we looking for? This answer is a simple one: Poets. If you are a poet, with any level of experience, we want to hear from you. We want the serious, the wacky, the wild, the broken hearted, the romantic, and the downright outrageous. This project is about showcasing poetry and spoken word in all its forms and themes, so get writing!

What happens next? When we’ve passed the submission deadline on October 6th, we will pick ten outstanding performers to record with The Heartsease Kid in a Norfolk based studio. Each Poet gets given a selection of possible tracks to choose from, so you can pick one that you think fits your poem perfectly. Once the project is finished, the successful poets will get the chance to perform their piece live at The Owl Sanctuary in Norwich on November 26th 2017, where finally you can get your voice heard.

What happens at the live show? Together with The Heartsease Kid, each spoken word artist will perform to an excited audience in Norwich. Entry to this event is free, so you can show friends and family just how talented you are. At this event, there will also be an hour long open mic, giving poets who didn’t make it onto the project a chance to show off their work and maybe even get themselves a slot on the next one.

How do I apply? Applications can be submitted by direct message to our Facebook page or to our email. Send over a video or an audio file of you doing your thing. Pick your best poem, all you have to do is make us listen, and we will make the world listen to you.

Let’s get more spoken word in Norwich! Contact us with any questions, and for now, be careful out there.
