The Norwich Radical contacted all candidates in this year’s UEA Students Union officer elections for comment on why they’re running and what they stand for. These articles are intended to offer an insight into the current and future state of the union and of the UEA more broadly.
UEA Students can vote at uea.su/ueavotes until Tuesday March 21st.
The responses of those candidates for International Students Officer (EU place and non-EU place) and Mature Students Officer that responded by the deadline are presented here, unedited. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order.
International Students Officer (EU place)
My name Is Katharina and I am running for the international EU officer position!
Since I joined UEA I have been involved with the International Committee and the International Students Society, which allowed me to get a profound understanding of what issues our international community faces and how we can improve those.
If I get elected as an officer I want to make sure through a 5 point plan to:
– Protect our EU rights
– Further support applicants in part-time and full-time jobs
– Work towards more international representation at UEA
– Develop a Mentor and Mentee scheme for internationals
– Encourage collaborations amongst cultural societies
Have a vision? Make the right decision!
Other candidates: Francisco de Borja Martin Simon
International Students Officer (Non-EU Place)
Unfortunately we were unable to reach any of the candidates for this position for comment. You can still vote for them at uea.su/ueavotes. They are:
Mature Students Officer
Hi I’m Lewis and I’m running for Mature Student officer.
I’m running to be your Mature Student officer in order to help make being a mature student more fun, accessible and inclusive. Mature Students represented a quarter of the students on campus and they need a voice to represent their issues. I want to reintroduce family fun days, extend stay and play, fight for a student bus fare and make sure that every mature student feels like they’re welcome at UEA.
All these issues and more are why you should vote for me for mature student officer.
