Original Italian by Laura Accerboni (1985-), from ‘La parte dell’annegato’

We are interesting
Our arms are
as are our teeth,
every sign of resistance
shows something interesting.
And in the soil,
when we’re inhabited
by tiny monsters
when our sockets
have nothing but smoke
sitting inside them,
that’s when we’re
incredibly interesting.
And we want
the grass
growing above us
to know it,
to understand it,
even the bird
living beneath us
with his giant
irreparable beak.
