by Alex Valente

Original Italian by Valentina Ferrari (1991 -), ‘Dello stomaco’

What’s left
of the stomach
is a fist in your throat,
a kiss
never given
when the cars
were running,
the tangle on the bed
freezing of its own accord.
The needle
pricks a finger
and my words cauterise
in the air
