Original Italian by Manuela Dago (1978-), ‘Cosa pensa la gente’

It’s a wordy problem
even not being able to say
not being able to explain
explain your words
to those listening.
When no one sees me
I do the worst things
and I do them to me
it’s a matter of politeness
where words don’t matter.
I’d need a degree or qualification
to say how I feel
to a guy who does market research
who calls me up as I’m writing a poem.
I like to write
because I like to think
that’s what I’d say to the interviewer
if I didn’t lack the time
and the guts
to withstand his questions.
I’d want to decide myself
what questions to be asked
I’d want a market research
that asks people
Tell me, what did you think about today?
How do you feel?
I’d answer:
Something finished
that concludes nothing.
